Trinity Baptist College Announces New Senior Vice President and Faculty Additions

I don’t know much about this school, though I have known some grads from the 70’s and 80’s. From these older grads, I gathered that the school was academically lacking, but these recent hires make it appear that the school is or has been beefing up.

I think I recognize a few of those folks. It seems they’ve moved a few hours east.

Faith is obeying when you can't even imagine how things might turn out right.

From their school catalog doctrinal statement:

The Holy Scriptures
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men and supernaturally inspired; that it is truth without any admixture of error for its matter; and therefore is and shall remain to the end of the age the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried. By “The Holy Bible” we mean that collection of sixty six books from Genesis to Revelation, which, as originally written, does not only contain and convey the Word of God but is the very Word of God. By “inspiration” we mean that the books of the Bible were written by holy men of old as they were moved by the Holy Spirit in such a definite way that their writings were supernaturally and verbally inspired (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21). We also believe that the King James version of the Bible is the divinely preserved Word of God for the English speaking people (Psalm 12:6-7) and that it has enjoyed a miraculous manifestation of God’s approval all during its history and use.

They believe the King James version of the Bible is the “divinely preserved” word of God for the English speaking people. Need anything else need to be known? It is a school to be separated from and not recommended.

[Bob T.] It is a school to be separated from and not recommended.
Of course, the biggest reason to separate from the school is the uncaring way in which its leadership treated the victims of Bob Gray’s criminal behavior.

Rick Franklin Gresham, Oregon Romans 8:38-39

I understand the sins of Bob Gray. But it is fair to call the school / church as “founded by a child molester”? Is not Christ the founder of the church? Did not TBC (Church and schools) have other leaders there at the inception of the ministry that were godly men?

I’m thinking about the current ministry there. I’m sure these are people who love the Lord and are endeavoring to honor and glorify Christ!

How can this particular ministry not escape the taint of its human founder? Aren’t there still active cases about how the church leadership covered up the actions of Bob Gray? The shame of particularly heinous sin has a broad umbrella, not limited to the person who committed it. Unfortunate but true. For that reason (as well as the KJVO issue) I would be extremely careful about committing to teach at such an institution and would not encourage my children to go there either.

Jim, you raise some interesting points. I’m sorry if I was unclear. The church was founded by a predecessor of Bob Gray, and it’s very reasonable to presume that it was founded by Christ using the instruments of Godly men. The college, on the other hand, was founded during a time when Bob Gray was pastoring the church and molesting children. Perhaps only God knows whether it was founded by Christ or by Bob Gray. God certainly does use sinners to carry out His kingdom’s work on earth.

There are certainly people who love the Lord at Trinity, both at the school and at the church, in the pew and in ministry, as students, teachers and administrators. But the leadership of Trinity was told of the molestation numerous times and chose to cover it up rather than to report it to police. After Gray was arrested, Trinity was sued, so they lawyered up, clammed up and stonewalled. They have never acknowledged their role in allowing Gray to escape accountability for his actions from the late 80s/early 90s until his arrest in 2006. Neither the mission board that sent Gray to Germany, nor any of the supporting churches were told of the credible molestation accusations that had been raised against him.

As someone who is a graduate of TBC and I worked for 3 1/2 years for BMFP (the mission board that Bob Gray served under) .

We were never aware of these accusations during the time that I was there from 1999-2002.

Trinity recently lost several faculty members and hired several new faculty members. Watch in the days ahead, I think we will see a shift away from old-style fundamentalism (Hyles, etc).

Ann,
Like usual we seem to agree.

Tlange,
i hope and pray that is so…but I will be cautious for a LONG time
