Arrogance in Academia: Erskine College and Seminary Sues the Church Synod That Owns It!

That newpaper article makes it seem like the college reflects little of its denomination. Only 10% of the students belong to the denomination and the profs. seem to be blatantly denying evangelical truth. I wonder if the denomination has let the school drift so far that a judge will give the school away; maybe it’s too late to make it truly a denominational school again.

Earlier this week I spoke with an Erskine board member. I also spoke with a second individual who is close to the situation, and am being purposefully vague to protect both individuals identity.

The school falls under the umbrella of the General Synod of the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARP). The information I have gleaned is that the Synod met in conference last week, and voted to dismiss the standing board of Erskine College. They appointed an Interim Board, which includes some of the original board members. The interim board was tasked with serving until June, when the Synod in it’s annual meeting would appoint a new board.

Members of the original board filed the lawsuit. The seminary is not involved in the lawsuit as it is administered separately.

Internet rumors have stated that the lawsuit has been dropped but the situation has not been resolved.
