"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Thanks for the tip, Greg… by way of Scott Aniol on Twitter I guess.

[B Thomas] It seems that the Standpoint fellas have the goal of re-defining or at least re-working, not saving an existing or former fundamentalism. Merging doesn’t work when the goals are different. Or maybe you were being facetious about the merge idea?
No, no, no. We’re defining us, not re-defining anyone else! We’re going to tell where we stand — particularly on koinonia. If that makes us Fundamentalist in some particular person’s eye, or not, is up to them.

But the conference does sound like a no-miss event. I’m glad I live nearby.

of what the other branch of fundamentalism tried to do several years ago for “damage control” for Hyles. I cannot remember the name ascribed to their conferences, but I am wondering if this is the same thing, except from the conservative side of things…

My question has always been, “When did God promise to preserve a movement?”

He did promise to preserve His word.

We do not have a promise from God to preserve a movement, but it doesn’t follow that the movement is not worth preserving if we can (He has also not promised to preserve any particular local church, for example.)
However, given what Bauder has written on many occasions in the past, I’m confident this is not about preserving the movement, which he already believes is dead and gone. It’s about preserving a set of principles and practices and probably, to some extent, relationships. I think the other lead speakers may not be quite as firm on the “movement is dead” angle as Bauder is, however. Haven’t seen or heard their thoughts on that question.

I wish to commend this thread for its clever title.
