Liberty University students call for shutdown of Falkirk Center for 'tarnishing' Christian witness
“The petition frequently spoke about the ‘damage being done to our school’s reputation by several un-Christlike people and alleged that the Falkirk Center has “tarnished” Liberty’s reputation: ‘While Ryan Helfenbein, Charlie Kirk, Eric Metaxas, and other Falkirk fellows champion their politics and their golden calf, we want the world to know how many students do not support them. Poor execution of the culture war has encouraged some (many?) young potential leaders to think in terms of a false disjunction. Being a champion for Christ doesn’t mean ignoring your culture. It means, that you can’t ignore it—though we’re not all called to be on the front lines of that work.
But Falkirk does seem to conflate Christ-in-culture with Christ-tacked-onto-partisan-politics. I get why they don’t like it!
