Fathers, love your family through family fun and worship

“One encouragement I have found as a father — beyond the bedrock truth that God is sovereign and that He loves and cares for my children better than me, and sometimes in spite of me — is the scriptural truism, ‘love covers a multitude of sins’ (1 Pet 4:8). Spend a few moments meditating on this, and you will find its depths unfathomable and its practical currency immediate.” - CBMW

  • I learned this from my parents growing up. Whatever their occasional failings and sins, it was 100% clear that they loved me, spent time with me, listened to my ramblings. And it’s helped to give me confidence that although parenting is a ton of work, it’s not actually complicated. Love the kid; listen; spend some time; take them on errands and listen as they talk; involve them in your projects; play chess with them.

  • I learned from being a parent that sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is stick a sock on your hand and make it talk. The Ted Tripp scripts, etc., are good and you need to instruct your kids and address their heart issues. But it’s OK to recognize when the child is in no mood to receive heavy instruction and it’s time just to make them laugh and get them out of their frump. There will be time for the talks later.
