Shai Linne and Scott Aniol interact on Christian Rap (Comments section)

Whereas the panel is assumedly not rascist…it does reek of high-handed ethnocentrism. IMO, the reduction of Aniol’s arguments is that some music has inherent beauty….we can’t be sure what else has beauty, but we do know that European classical music and English hymnody have beauty…and are thus pleasing to God. Other forms of music should be avoided.

I say that having listened to Scott in person a dozen times, having read several of his books, and having interacted on his website/blog. I have a lot of respect for Scott. I think that he does an good job discussing biblical principles. However his conclusion are unfavorably colored by his predisposition toward certain cultural expressions of music.

Scott interacted quite graciously with Shai Linne on his own blog. I would have wished that Scott would have called for Christian charity when the panel member was calling out the “disobedient cowards”….a statement that Scott disagrees with.

I am very impressed with the grace and humility that Shai Linne exercised. His comments are Scriptural and his tone is kind.

For the record, I don’t particularly enjoy “Reformed Rap” and I choose not to listen to it.
