NY Senate Rejects Same-Sex Marriage Bill
Originally, I received word that they were going to pass this legislation on Tuesday. So, I went down to the Capital. When I got there, I met with several Christians who have a regular ministry there. These believers witness to our legislators and they try to help them understand issues from a biblical perspective. God is using this band of believers. The most powerful Republican in the Assembly accepted Christ a few years ago through the gospel influence of these believers. He now boldly stands for Christ.
We had a prayer meeting and then the group started talking to legislators. I spoke with Rubin Diaz who is an interesting man. He is a Democrat from the Bronx who is also a pastor. He has stood against this legislation and has even received death threats for his position.
Anyways, the defeat of this same-sex marriage bill was a great encouragement to believers in our State. People on both sides of the issue are stunned by the wider than expected margin victory of the opposition.
Tom Stiles, a member of SI, is the research secretary for the New York Family Rsearch Foundation. Tom, Jason McGuire, and Duane Motley have led the believers of our state in standing against this push to reject God’s blueprint for marriage. Praise the Lord for their ministry.
Sometimes here at SI, we argue over whether or not Christians should get involved in politics. I believe this is an issue that we need to be involved in for many reasons.
