U.S. Abortion Rate Continues to Decline, According to CDC Data
“This new abortion data from the CDC should hearten pro-lifers across the country and give them some encouragement to continue their lifesaving work.” - National Review
The overall #—about 660,000 plus California, Maryland, and New Hampshire—is a little over half the 1.2 million I remember as a kid, and it includes nonsurgical abortions, so there’s nothing big hiding there. Probably about 800k total giving a somewhat generous allocation to the non-reporters, and it reflects not primarily an increased use in contraception, but a drop in the abortion rate for out of wedlock pregnancies from 54% to 42%.
And as I’ve noted before, this is why Planned Parenthood works so hard to keep their subsidies for contraception prescriptions and a few other services. The # of abortions out there simply cannot pay the bills for an abortion clinic outside major metropolitan areas and a few Division 1 university towns. Hence they plead for this adjunct program for Medicaid to make ends meet. This is also why the industry fights safety regulations tooth and nail.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
