Ann Coulter: On Tiger, Brit Hume. Cites John 3:16, Romans 6:23, and Ephesians 2:8

She’s pretty much right but there’s something a little disturbing about Anne Coulter quoting Scripture and preaching about forgiveness.

Can’t argue with this…
[Coulter] Is Buddhism about forgiveness? Because, if so, Buddhists had better start demanding corrections from every book, magazine article and blog posting ever written on the subject, which claims Buddhists don’t believe in God, but try to become their own gods. I can’t imagine that anyone thinks Tiger’s problem was that he didn’t sufficiently think of himself as a god

Or this…
[Coulter] given the reaction to his [Hume’s] remarks, apparently one has to be a regular New Testament scholar to have so much as a passing familiarity with the basic concept of Christianity.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

I seldom disagree on principle with Ann Coulter, but her choices of expression either leave me rolling my eyes or spewing my coffee.

Yes, I don’t know quite how to feel about seeing the gospel put that way. The beauty of what it is shines through but… maybe Anne and Driscoll have been consulting one another on how to put things in crude and shocking terms. ;)

Sometimes Anne would even make Mark blush..and MAYBE vis versa…LOL

I guess this is one of those things where you trust that His word will not return void…in Ann’s life or that of her readers. I once was a mocker myself, and employed scripture in the oddest most profane ways. She at least seems to be trying to use it as accurately as she knows how, to make a point.

I pray seekers will see the precious truths of Christ and that the foolishness and dross (ie I don’t consider myself to be “every bit as much a Christian as the pope”) fall away.

She is a member of (or at least attends) Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC, and seems to give a clear salvation testimony. But is this an example of what Peter Masters was talking about when he remonstrated with a new generation of Reformed Theologians and their views of sanctification?

For those unfamiliar with what Fred is alluding to… http://www.metropolitantabernacle.org/?page=articles&id=13
And we had some discussion about it here: http://sharperiron.org/filings/6-9-09/7435

I’m not sure how new it is, though. Though I have not had a really good cross section to go by, it seems that outside the fundamentalist tradition, there was kind of a void (in 20th century) of sensitivity about “the world” which may not have resulted in really big observable differences in behavior at the time, but in the new cultural landscape, the void is exposed. (Not that fundamentalist teaching on “the world” has been really excellent, but nobody can deny that we have had a high level of sensitivity to the subject of how we are to not conform to the world).

I’d like to point out that to become a member of a PCA church, you don’t have to subscribe to any sort of doctrinal statement. You just need to give a clear salvation testimony and not be under church discipline or doing anything that would necessitate it. So, there are a lot of people in Reformed churches that aren’t themselves Reformed, or even know what that means. Also, Redeemer has a much more ideologically diverse membership than most PCA churches. There were several comments in Coulter’s article that I doubt you would hear from a PCA pastor grounded in his Reformed heritage. However, there was at least one paragraph that I’m sure left Tim Keller smiling:
Christianity is also the hardest religion in the world because, if you believe Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead, you have no choice but to give your life entirely over to Him. No more sexual promiscuity, no lying, no cheating, no stealing, no killing inconvenient old people or unborn babies — no doing what all the other kids do.
BTW, other than the Pope comment and the low-church emphasis, I quite enjoyed the piece.

The New Testament also requires Christians to do tons of things that Ann Coulter rails against. Whether you are a liberal or a conservative, selective Christians who simply heed the portions of the Bible that they like while ignoring the rest are not Christians at all.

I think ‘selective’ Christian describes the average Christian, and honestly compels us to admit that we all do this to some degree. Thank goodness most of us will never do it on national television.

Job,

I am not quite sure what you mean. Can you ellaborate? i don’t listen or read to Ann alot, so before I comment I would like to know what you mean specifically.

I know almost nothing about Ann Coulter, but I was excited to see a clear as day presentation of the gospel as I could hope for from anyone in the media. Paul rejoiced when people preached for wrong reasons - I think this is a great example of the gospel going out!

Is it the way I would do it? No. Can I rejoice in it, and pray someone will come to Christ because of it? Most certainly! Thanks for pointing it out SI!
