Darrell Champlin home with the Lord
One major key to opening the villages was a confrontation with a witch doctor in a power encounter with the forces of darkness. When villagers began to accept Jesus Christ, the unsaved leadership called for the chief witchdoctor from the interior to come and confront Darrell Champlin’s influence. The village broke many bottles and made a heap of broken glass, and nearby a fire. The witchdoctor went into a trance, and under demonic control, danced on both the glass and in the fire suffering no damage. He boasted that this is the power of the spirits he had. Darrell prayed, and the Lord indicated that he should do the same. Slipping off his shoes, he began to dance on the broken glass, suffering no harm. He then danced on the fire. It was hot, but did him no harm as well. The following morning there was a knock on the door, and village leaders asked to see his feet, which were unharmed. They exclaimed “Oh. God has power too.”
The Champlins were part of our church in the early 50’s (maybe even the 40’s) when they were Bible school students. We’ve been supporting them since 1955, though I only met him once about 10 years ago. (I’ve only been at the church for 16 years).
