Against fear as a prism for Christian reality
Good message for our times.
Visiting an area church recently, I met another visitor who, in a very short time got past the friendly small talk and reached a quiet but boiling rage about some things being taught at a local public school. Had to do with young kids being taught to respect people’s preferred pronouns.
I felt two things about that:
- Even if this were a great evil, it’s not at all surprising in these times and if there’s any response at all that can stem the tide, an angry response isn’t it.
- I have a hard time seeing it as a great evil. We know what biblical sexual ethics is and that comes down to things we do and things we allow ourselves to indulge in inwardly… and that’s really as far as that goes. It’s not about pronouns.
The old wisdom “choose your battles” has problably never been more apt.
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
