9,637: SBC's unofficial Dallas registration...nearly double last year's 5,015 messengers

“It is the highest attendance at an annual meeting since Orlando in 2010 (11,070), but fewer than in 1997 when the convention last met in Dallas (12,519).” BPress

Discussion

There are apparently 45,000 SBC churches, more or less. So even this surge in attendance shows a tremendous amount of apathy there, it seems, and this could result in some very volatile decisions. My wife was reading some things from Jonathan Merritt (admittedly not an unbiased source) that suggest that the Patterson fiasco would leave a significant dent in the conservative/fundamental direction that Patterson championed.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
