Pastor James McConnell: “Islam is heathen, Islam is satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in hell”
- “Mormonism is heathen, Mormonism is satanic, Mormonism is a doctrine spawned in hell”
- “Hinduism is heathen, Hinduism is satanic, Hinduism is a doctrine spawned in hell”
Ditto for any cult or gross error (say Oneness Pentecostalism)
I just saw the headline, mentally nodded my head, and moved on.
Pastor McConnell is, from the biblical and evangelical perspective, entirely within his rights to condemn Islam on the basis of its own tenets. Indeed he may consider he has a duty to do so.
Unless somebody is an inclusivist, I think we all agree!

Since Jim wanted some discussion…here are some very non-expert observations:
- The article itself seemed to have a good dose of commonsense.
- It sounds like the situation with Islam is very different in Britain than it is in the US. It seems like they are more polarized: both more political correctness on the one hand, and more willingness to sound an alarm that their society is about to be overrun by Muslims. (I’m getting this from the comments that followed.)
- The interaction among commenters seemed just as heated (or more so) as comments on US articles…but my impression is that generally they were a lot more thoughtful and substantive, and a lot less puerile than American commenters. Many commenters at least had the imagination to step into their opponent’s position, respect it, and understand what speech and actions are simply consistent with that position.
