Polls show that most of the movement’s adherents are atheists, with a scattering of agnostics and apostate religionists thrown in. In any event, the focus of their movement is materialistic. Most of them believe or fear that nothing of them will survive their own dying.
It’s a very popular POV among sci fi writers. As an imagination-stretching paradigm-twisting vision of the future of humanity, it’s fascinating, but as a serious proposition… equal parts sad and creepy.
