Joel Osteen makes the cover of Success magazine

“Houston megachurch pastor and best-selling author Joel Osteen says he doesn’t hear the critics of his ‘prosperity gospel’ who say he causes people to focus on themselves instead of God.” RNS

Discussion

…there are just so many things wrong with this:

“Osteen is promoting his latest book, “The Power of I Am,” and recently had a theological discussion on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Colbert asked how he was going to top God telling Moses “I am that I am.”

Osteen said he was shifting to how people describe themselves after the words “I am.”

“I think there’s power in our words,” he told Colbert. “I think people don’t realize how many times we speak negative things about ourselves.”

The Apostle Paul:

1 Timothy 1:15 (ESV): “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”

(Poor Paul, speaking such a “negative thing” about himself…)

ADDENDUM: Then again, I see scant evidence that Joel Osteen has ever read any of Paul’s books either……..

Man! He beat me once again! I was hoping to get preacher of the year, my pic on the front of a major magazine, and get a few offers for honorary doctorates this year.

Have they picked Sharperiron Dude Of The Year yet?
