Ukraine Baptists: Law to ban Russia-linked Orthodox churches not anti-religion

“the law would provide a system for Ukraine’s government, as well as lay members of Orthodox churches, to learn whether any church leaders are covertly supporting Russia’s war efforts” - BPress

It's worth noting that after the U.S. Revolution, the "Anglican" churches of the United States became "Episcopalian" churches that owed no allegiance to the King.

It's also worth noting that among the Orthodox, you've got "autocephalous" churches that do not owe allegiance to either the Greek Orthodox Church or the Russian Orthodox Church. In Ukraine, the Orthodox are split between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Ukrainian leadership--the former unfortunately being predominant as far as I can tell.

My take regarding the current situation is that there's too much evidence that the Orthodox churches in Ukraine of the Moscow Patriarchate have been more or less coopted by the FSB (the new KGB), and hence the Ukrainian government is right to say "your purpose here is not exactly religious anymore." Put another way, when Kyrill is basically sainting a blood-stained adulterer like Putin, it's time to cut ties.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
