America’s Confusing Relationship with Children

“We believe that marriage and family “will just happen when it’s time.” But these things rarely do just happen in our culture, which is why so many find themselves like the woman in the viral video, wishing things had gone differently” - Breakpoint

I can't speak for the culture as a whole, but the "will just happen when it's time" is something I see all the time on all kinds of subjects. The child's refusal to study isn't an issue; their work ethic will happen "when it's time", except when it won't. The refusal to marry will happen "when it's time", except...when it won't, and so much more.

There are any number of places where we need to abandon our passivity and "press the issues" of character.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
