Why is Good Preaching So Rare?

Forum category

If you think your preaching could be better, give this 54 minute lecture by Carl Truman a listen. I’ve done it twice. He does take a little but polite jab at T4G and his statement that “An MDiv does not qualify you as competent for the ministry” may puncture some pride filled balloons.

BTW, this is a great lecture for you even if your preaching couldn’t possibly get any better.

Excellent lecture. I liked when he asked about the pastors that most influenced you. Many may not have heard of them, but Rodney Benson, Dennis Seiler, and Sam Telloyan are some of the ones who come to my mind. They may not have been famous preachers, and many may never have heard of them, but they were consistent and loved the Lord and the people they ministered to.

The best thing I’ve heard on preaching. Trueman has quite a few lectures where he discusses a theology of preaching. He is excellent on this point; likely because he is pastor of a small church and understands real life. I actually listened to the lecture again this past Thursday.
