I think Peterson is right…the debate IS largely over. Now it’s just a matter of who bucks the trend and remains faithful to what God commands.
It’s a shame that Peterson is going to cave.

The homosexual and same-sex marriage issue has clearly revealed a lot of previously hidden theological liberals.

No disrespect intended, David, but if indeed Aaron’s characterization of The Message is even 10% correct, we would infer that observant believers have known that Peterson has shown signs of theological liberalism for a long time. For that matter, he was a CPUSA PCUSA (oops, I get them confused) pastor for decades as well.
I don’t know that the debate over same sex mirage is entirely over, though, even among unbelievers. The reality is that we now have marriage and divorce rates for homosexuals/bisexuals, and it appears that only about 10% of this cohort is legally married, and the “initial demand” for marriage is leveling off. So we might find proof—respectable evidence that will pass peer review—that these relationships are quite different than heterosexual relationships. More or less, it takes the science from APA/Paul Cameron to respectability.

Somehow I’m reminded of how Charles Barkley famously said he was misquoted…in his autobiography, and how President Obama made “composite girlfriends” in his autobiographies. I also took a look at a couple of passages from “The Message” and concur with Aaron. It’s a clear example of the proverb (not Biblical) that we used to quote in college, that if one couldn’t blind ‘em with brilliance, you could baffle them with bloviation.
