"We have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce, and canonized those who complain."

“Brilliant economist Thomas Sowell, 86, announced his retirement Monday from writing columns, and the dubious profession lost one of its greats.” WORLD

Discussion

Sowell made a huge contribution. His book, “Basic Economics” is excellent. One of the heavy hitters of the Chicago School.

Sowell’s ‘Intellectuals and Society’ (if I recall the title) is just one of many excellent works by this outstanding scholar. “Wise” is the adjective that I think best describes him.

A Conflict of Visions. Very insightful.

Black Rednecks and White Liberals. I have to admit the link between street gang culture and the highlands rednecks seems tenuous, but the book is a fascinating study of cultural influences… and worth reading just for Sowell’s perspective on African American culture before and after the Civil Rights Movement.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

I never met a book by Sowell that I didn’t love. I got the 5th edition of Basic Economics on audio for one of my kids for Christmas. Townhall.com just won’t be the same without Sowell.

….but to who? I am dreading the day Dr. Sowell’s friend, Walter Williams, also decides to retire.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
