Ron Bean- Heart Issues

Forum category

Most of you have seen Ron Bean participating here. He had a heart catheterization done today. His wife Nancy updates:

Friends — a quick update on our day. Ron’s procedure did not go as hoped. Due to substantial blockages and unusual artery shaping it was not possible to complete the procedure. They worked on him for roughly six hours before ending the attempt, so he has a pretty beat-up system. He is in the hospital tonight in the CCU where he will remain until at least tomorrow pending tests. Once he is better and home we will work to determine what the next course of action should be.
We so appreciate your prayers and thoughts and would ask that you continue those, as we will definitely need God’s wisdom and guidance in the days ahead. We are trusting in God to provide for Ron, to lead in the decision-making process over the next few days, and to bring us peace.

Keep the family in your prayers. Will try to remember to update as details become available.

Again, from his wife:

Friends — hoping your Thanksgiving was a great day!

Ron had a tough day. The process of recovery from Wednesday is a larger job than any of us anticipated. He has battled continued issues with everything from blood enzymes (I still don’t know what that means) to oxygen levels to breathing difficulties. Not a lot of pain, but every hurdle to conquer is a hard fight. So he is beyond exhausted.

Those of you that pray, please ask the Lord to give him rest so that his body and functions can recover. He needs strength to get over these hurdles and back on his feet.

He’s still in CCU, and he has requested no visitors. Talking is draining for him right now. But he, and all of us, are so grateful for the many messages, calls, texts, and support that so many of you have extended to us. You’ve been like family, and it’s amazing.

So, at the end of this most unusual Thanksgiving Day, we Beans are so very thankful. We will continue to update here as more news is forthcoming!

Praying. Ron, we have never met in person that I am aware of, but you have been a great encouragement to me through the years here on SI. I continue to pray.

Day three of Ron’s medical saga. Let me say what a blessing it has been to hear from so many of you friends who care about Ron and our family. The support has truly buoyed us up, over and over.
It’s a slow process. Ron has had test after test, doctor evaluations, new medicines, and a lot of stress. His breathing is difficult due to fluid in the lungs, and the medical team is doing their best to strengthen and support his weakened heart so it can drive the rest of the body systems. Apparently this will be a lengthy road. We are taking it one day at a time.
We are grateful for the medical personnel in the CCU who are working hard to help him heal. We value your continued prayers for strength, wisdom, healing, and peace.
I am personally grateful to my sons who are shouldering every bit of the load that they can. Stephen is halfway around the world but his calls and support are amazing. David and Lindsay are here, and I could not walk this week without them. God is good to give us what we need.
Thank you again for your concern and prayers for Ron.

Today was, finally, a day with some encouragement! Ron sat up in a chair for several hours, looked and sounded a little more alert, and actually watched a little football! He is still completely exhausted, needs breathing support, and is tied to a ton of medications, but the systems are beginning to work again and the breathing process is not so horribly uncomfortable. We are praising God for these little steps down the road to what we hope will be a good healing process eventually.

Thanks again for your continued prayers and support. We know it’s a long road ahead, but after three really discouraging days it was such a blessing to see him turn a little corner in the positive direction today!

Good news today, friends! Ron was moved out of the CCU and onto a regular cardio/vascular floor! He’s off one medication and his numbers are holding fairly steady, so they decided he was ready for this step-down care level. We are really happy about this progress!
He still requires breathing assistance and several medications, and they are still working diligently to get the pulmonary edema under control. So there’s still a long road ahead of us, but today surely felt more positive.
We are so grateful to God for the start of healing, and to all of you for your prayers and thoughts. Please continue to pray that Ron will be able to rest. Sleeping has been difficult, and so has eating. He needs strength. His heart is weak but his determination is strong! We hope to see steps forward every day, if God wills.

Baby steps continue in Ron’s improvement. But today’s most significant one was….food. He’s been very thirsty due to oral liquid limits due to the pulmonary edema. Now that he is on a regular floor, we got the okay to bring in some fruit, which he was craving. Oh the bliss of the first bite of watermelon! Not to mention that today is the first day (in a week) that he actually took a few bites of solid food. Hopefully he will gain some strength from this.

It’s so heartwarming to hear from many of you and know you are praying for Ron and thinking about him. We ask that you keep him in your prayers and thoughts for daily continued improvement on the long road back to health!

Thanks, Greg, for passing on the news about Ron to us. It’s good to hear he’s on the mend.

Friends, time for another update on Ron. He continues in the hospital, and the last week has involved a lot of testing and analysis as his doctor team works to determine the best course of action for his treatment. He is feeling better, getting around better, doing more things, eating well, and sleeping better. The battle continues with keeping fluid retention down and learning to work around the shortness of breath. We know now that he suffered a severe heart attack back on …November 23, and much of his recent recovery is getting over the trauma of that day. Now, with decreased heart function, the medical team is determining the necessary steps for moving forward from here.
Ron and I are so appreciative of your comments, concern, and prayers. He has his computer and sees some of your posts, though he does not have the strength to respond very much. We are grateful for friends and family who have stepped up to help us through this difficult time. Thank you especially for your prayers — God is good and gracious to us. His way is perfect, and we are trusting in Him for wisdom and healing!
