Seven Lessons from Europe

Piper’s assessment of Europe coincides to a great degree with what I saw back in 1989. I’ve never talked about Christ as much as I did on the train over there. it was amazing.

And nudity in public art? Piper nails it. My hypothesis is that classicism in art first produced renditions of Venus and Eros, and then “mysteriously” a lot of religious art suddenly (e.g. most renditions of David) became about Venus and Eros—just with different names. It is as if the patrons of the arts liked looking at naked people, and took whatever excuse they could get to do so.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
