The Last 12 Verses of Mark

….that they’d gone in to the reasoning. I am guessing that those familiar with the Greek note that not only does this passage not appear on the Alexandrian manuscripts, but there are some hints from the Greek grammar that are slightly off—hints of a “Texan trying to write something from New York” or something like that.

One thing not mentioned here is that even if we don’t decide that the passage does not belong (I am undecided), we have to ask whether they’re referring to authentication of the message in the early church, or whether it’s to continue. Most of us are cessationists here, so we’ve got to admit that we handle a few other passages in this same way.

And for giggles, you can see the Smokey Mountain Rattlesnake Retreat, by Ray Stevens. Yes, folks, some of that is real footage.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

Burgon’s defense of this passage should be read and understood. And it seems to me that in the context of the NT the verses “square” with Hebrews 2:1-4.

Whenever there is a question of textual criticism, I recommend you check the evangelical textual criticism blog…do a search there, and find several good articles, and in the comments you will find both sides of the issue well argued.

I just happened to attend Grace Community Church on a Sunday evening a few years ago to see a missionary that I was supporting get his official send off, and it just so happened John MacArthur was preaching his very last sermon which would complete his life-long series on the New Testament. Guess what the text was? Yes, the end of Mark. I thought it was amusing that the final sermon of the New Testament was on a text he didn’t believe belonged in Scripture.

But I must say he did a great job making his case that evening.

Brother Moritz. Uncle John did a good job.

Hoping to shed more light than heat..

Thank you for the link. I just listened and it is a concise, current statement.

Thomas,

Thank you (and Bro. Moritz) for your comments. Unfortunately, i haven’t done the same for the Johannine Comma.
