Another one for the “Surprise! Men and Women Are Different” file. It’s interesting to me how often people think they are raising kids in some gender neutral way when what they’re really doing is fighting Design. There just isn’t as much “neutral” as they imagine.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

There is a community near me that is quite liberal and many of the parents put their boys in skirts and there girls in obviously boy clothing. It always makes me laugh to observe them acting like one would expect their gender to act.

Going for gender neutral/androgyny is bad enough, intentionally dressing oppositely—that’s just using kids as a vehicle for social rebellion.. or some other kind of rebellion. Many will find their way to their identity in spite of that, but many will be confused by it. That’s just abusive.

Agreed. I can’t imagine the effects that being raised gender neutral must have on a child.
