Why Is Donald Trump Winning Over Evangelical Voters?
“…a vexing question has gone unanswered: Why are evangelicals, those most desired of conservative voters, fond of Trump?” New Republic

Could it be because evangelicals are as foolishly wowed by pop-culture celebrity fame as everyone else apparently is?
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
they realize Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, and Mike Huckabee have zero chance of getting elected, and they are going with a choice that will shake things up.
He talks about taxing like the tithe… Tithe? Shoot, how many people here at SI disagree that the tithe applies today? How is that going to float with a secular voter when most Christians hate the idea?
I fall asleep before he finishes telling me his father was a Baptist pastor!
:-)
Cozying up to pop culture and the embracing of pragmatism would be my top two. That and an unwillingness at times to exercise discernment.
I would say that voters are interested in someone outside the establishment. Greg Linscott linked to this poll this AM on Facebook: http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-08-31/carson-trump-tie-…
I don’t put much stock in polls, but it is showing Carson now tied with Trump in Iowa, both at 23%.
The pols are all doing fairly poorly.
I think people are fed up with politics as usual and want someone to shake things up. However… I am concerned about that kind of reaction. Personally, of the crowd running, I like Scott Walker the best. I could care less how well he speaks or if he puts anyone to sleep. It is his record of management as a governor and his leadership that interests me.
It is incredibly difficult for anyone to turn the machinery of government around, even if they are the president. If Trump or Carson were to be elected, I think their inexperience would show and cause serious problems down the road. But their appeal is that they are NOT career politicians.
Finally, I suspect that Trump has reached his peak. That’s why Carson has been gaining. Although Carson is perhaps less experienced than Trump as a leader, he is less mercurial and would be a far better choice of the two. Outrage will only go so far and I think Trump has pretty well tapped into all the support he will get.
Of course, I have been wrong before!

Aside: the “build a wall” idea is ludicrous!
