Bob Gray and Russ Anderson launch Independent Baptist College

I doubt I would move my family to sit under another man’s ministry, not because they are not good men, but because they are not Jack Hyles. He was the draw to those us back then. It was like coming for a four year Pastor’s School degree. We wanted to study the man and his ministry.

Blech.

Blech.

I thought the same thing when I read that. How much damage has been done in the name of Christ by men who followed anyone but Him!

PV,

you should read the PDF letter Larry Nelson linked. He practically prays to St. Jack, not to mention refers to his teaching as authoritative the way you and I would refer to Paul’s.

Double blech.

If the “he” you want to be preeminent is Jack Hyles or King James, this is the place for you! I didn’t see a mention of Jesus in either of these pitiful epistles. I was reminded of an old issue of Sword of the Lord that had over 100 churches in their church ad section with plenty of pictures of pastors (in their younger days) and not a mention of the Savior. Man worship at its best.

Ok, that letter was awful. I feel sick to my stomach with the realization that the words of Jack Schaap as quoted by Anderson were the only reasonable statements I could agree with in the whole thing.
Also, it strikes me as a bit hypocritical that Anderson would write a letter to Jack Hyles, presumably in heaven, but would no doubt reject the Catholic doctrine of praying to Mary or the saints!
I really shouldn’t have read that this late at night. :-)

I appreciate the weirdness of this situation, but in all fairness Anderson was not “praying to” Hyles, he was talking to him. He tried to justify it by citing the Hebrews 12 verse and comparing this to how often Hyles “talked to his mother” in the pulpit.

Is it weird? Yes.

Is it prayer in the sense that Catholics petition Mary or Saints to pray to God on their behalf by using the merit they accumulated in their lifetimes? Manifestly no.

Mark,

Please allow for some hyperbole in my expression, which I did qualify with “practically”. The point is it was really weird. And Anderson’s point was that people ought to defer to the teaching of Hyles as authoritative because Hyles was unquestionably more knowledgeable than anyone (e.g. Schaap) that came after.

Did I say “blech”?

When I looked at the faculty page, I wondered what a “KJB Consultant” was. Is that a curious amalgam of KJV and KGB?

I did a screenshot of her picture and title from their faculty page, but I don’t know how to make it part of this comment.

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

Gail Riplinger?

Author of “New Age Bible Versions”?
Someone is still propping her up as a credible authority figure?
