I mentioned originally that this thread is for free ebooks, but I felt like I should mention that the MacArthur Study Bible (ESV, Kindle Edition) is on sale for $5.00. It’s a terrific study bible and worth picking up.
Just as a reminder - books are free or priced at the time of the posting. Please be careful when clicking though to ensure that they are still free (or discounted, as it may be).

Standing Strong: How To Resist the Enemy of Your Soul by John MacArthur
Spiritual warfare is a divisive subject for today’s church. Some Christians focus solely on the immediate world around them, living as if there’s no spiritual opposition to God’s people and His kingdom. Others take an aggressive stance, where confronting the enemy becomes a constant pursuit in their lives.
John MacArthur believes the truth is found between these extremes. Standing Strong offers a balanced, biblically sound approach to spiritual warfare in the life of a believer. A trusted and renowned pastor and author, MacArthur examines key scriptures to debunk modern fallacies, define true spiritual warfare, and share what that looks like for believers today. Throughout, you’ll be encouraged and equipped to stand strong in the face of every spiritual challenge.
Standing Strong includes a guide for both personal and group study, which features discovery questions, suggestions for prayer, and activities, all designed to connect life-changing truths with everyday living.
Courage: True Adventures of Risk and Faith is also free - it’s marketed as Christian so I’m listing it here. Here’s the blurb about the author. I’m not making any specific claims about the explicit ‘Christianness’ of the book.
James Lund is an award-winning writer and editor who enjoys helping others develop their voice and message. The author of or collaborator on nearly thirty books, he is a veteran of Christian publishing who has worked with bestselling authors, public figures, and ministry leaders including Max Lucado, George Foreman, Jim Daly, Dr. James & Shirley Dobson, Dennis & Barbara Rainey, Randy Alcorn, Tim Brown, Kathy Ireland, Jim Caviezel, Kim Meeder, Bruce Olson, and Shaunti Feldhahn. Book sales from Jim’s projects total nearly three million copies. Three have earned the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Gold Medallion Award.
Jim has experience with many book styles and formats, including biography, story driven, fiction, devotional, and straightforward teaching. He has a strong interest in books that focus on adventure, risk, sports, marriage, parenting, business, and music. He lives with his wife and children in Central Oregon, where he enjoys music, hiking, and baseball.

Help for Women Under Stress by Randy and Nanci Alcorn is free for Kindle devices.
Blurb:
Stress. It’s part of our everyday lives, sometimes as the spark that keeps us moving forward and sometimes as the avalanche that threatens to bury us. Chances are, since this book’s title has caught your eye, you are looking for some relief from stress, or at least hope that relief is possible.

Let this book help you live in a way that honors God and your loved ones, while understanding and respecting your limits. And let it remind you that one day God will wipe away all the downsides of stress in an eternal world of rest, refreshment, thriving relationships and unending adventure.

Confessions of a Prayer Wimp is free at GoBible.com.
Is your spiritual life more like a fast-food run than an intimate dinner for two? Whether it’s the busy mother’s wish to be Wonder Woman—minus the metal bra—or battles with an exploding hot water heater, or fighting the “Resolutionary War” of New Year’s Day, Mary Pierce understands the dilemmas of being a woman in today’s 24/7 world. From disorganized misery to extreme organizational mania (she used to refer to her children by their household chores: Cat Box Boy, Dishwasher Girl, and Garbage Can Baby), Pierce deals with our fumbling attempts to grow closer to God, encouraging us as she invites us to laugh, cry, love, embrace life, and pray! In her humorous, conversational style, Pierce laughs at her mistakes and her prayers that seem more like advertising jingles (Lord, I need a break today, and Can you hear me now, Lord?). In Confessions of a Prayer Wimp, you’ll come to understand that faith is less about what you are or do or say, and more about who God is—someone who loves you no matter what you do.
I find it interesting that books like this are invariably aimed at women, not men.

I wanted to put a link back to the main article that explains the methodology behind this forum thread. Essentially, these are the things you need to know:
- Books must be explicitly Christian.
- Books are not vetted beforehand. Caveat Emptor.
- Submissions are welcome to me via PM or my email (si.jayc@gmail.com)
- Permalinks to original sources are preferred.
- I prefer to credit the source of the tip. If you don’t want that, please let me know.

How People Change by Timothy S. Lane and Paul Tripp is free on Amazon.com for a little while. Here’s the blurb:
A changed heart is the bright promise of the gospel.
Timothy S. Lane, M.Div., D.Min., is Executive Director of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF), a faculty member, and a counselor with twenty-five years of experience, including ten years as a pastor. He is the coauthor of the books How People Change and Relationships: A Mess Worth Making, coauthor of the curriculums Change and Your Relationships and How People Change, author of the minibooks Conflict; Family Feuds; Forgiving Others; and Freedom from Guilt.
When the Bible talks about the gift of a new heart, it doesn’t mean a heart that is immediately perfected, but a heart that is capable of being changed. Jesus’ work on the cross targets our hearts, our core desires and motivations, and when our hearts change, our behavior changes. It’s amazing to watch people who once seemed stuck in a pattern of words, choices, and behaviors start living in a new way as Christ changes their hearts.

John Piper wrote a book that is meditations on the Advent Season. Desiring God announced this morning that it is now free for download at their website. There are three formats available - PDF, ePub, and Mobi (so Kindles and Nooks can read this in their native format).
About the Book
Good News of Great Joy: Daily Readings for Advent is designed especially for Advent 2013. With readings beginning Sunday, December 1, and going through Christmas Day, this book of Advent devotionals aims to put Jesus at the center of your holiday season. These short meditations are excerpted from the ministry of John Piper and correspond to the daily readings in Desiring God’s free devotional app, Solid Joys (available in iTunes and Google Play), as well as online.

Mere Christianity (PDF) by CS Lewis is free at this website.
Wounded Women of the Bible is also free for Kindle. Here’s the blurb:
Imploding relationships, incapacitating losses, injurious personal mistakes, or spiritual failures—whatever the issue, the wounds are the same. Whether it’s a lapse in judgment by Bathsheba or the moral failure of the women’s ministry leader in your local church; the spiritual insensitivity of Martha or the compulsive obsessions of your church’s care circle chairwoman; the terror of an abandoned single mother like Hagar or the struggling single mother in your prayer group—the time and circumstances are different, but the wounds are equally deep and spiritually devastating. Dena Dyer and Tina Samples get it. They have their own stories of pain before healing—along with similar experiences of their families and friends. Offering more than pat affirmations or vicarious shoulders to cry on, Dena and Tina delve deep into the shared emotions and injuries that women of all ages have in common—and move readers toward the recovery and healing that only God can provide. No matter what hurts you’ve experienced, Wounded Women of the Bible proves that God understands and that healing is not only His intention but His delight! This is a book not to be missed!

Long Story Short: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God
Transform Your Family with Ten Minutes a Day in the Gospel Story
Christian parents know the importance of passing the gospel story on to their children, yet we live in a busy world filled with distractions. Schedules collide, there is homework and yard work and dishes and laundry, the car’s oil should be changed, there are phone calls to make and before you know it, everyone is getting to bed late again. The Bible can seem like a long story for an active family to read, but when you break it down into short sections, as Marty Machowski does, family devotions are easy to do.
Long Story Short will help busy parents share with their children how every story in the Old Testament points forward to God’s story of salvation through Jesus Christ. You won’t find a more important focus for a family devotional than a daily highlighting of the gospel of grace. Clever stories and good moral lessons may entertain and even help children, but the gospel will transform children. The gospel is deep enough to keep the oldest and wisest parents learning and growing all their lives, yet simple enough to transform the heart of the first grader who has just begun to read. Ten minutes a day, five days a week is enough time to pass on the most valuable treasure the world has ever known.
Long Story Short is a family devotional program designed to explain God’s plan of salvation through the Old Testament and is suitable for children from preschool through high school.

A Quest for More: Living for Something Bigger than You is now free for Kindle; it’s by Paul David Tripp.
Paul David Tripp expertly traverses the deepest recesses of the human heart and compassionately invites fellow Christian travelers to journey with him into God’s bigger kingdom.
The author promises readers that they will be encouraged, excited, and motivated by hope as they learn how to set aside their “little kingdom” attachments which can expertly masquerade within the church as Christian activism, legalism, emotionalism, formalism, creedalism, and externalism; in favor of God’s expansive and soul-freeing eternal quest. Tripp demonstrates through sound biblical principles how humanity is made by God to transcend far beyond the mere physical realm and is likewise created to be “glory junkies;” those whose visionary lives are governed by God’s grand purposes rather than existing only within their narrow self-interested confines.
Writes the author, “It is a fundamental denial of your humanity to narrow the size of your life to the size of your own existence, because you were created to be an ‘above and more’ being. You were made to be transcendent.” Tripp then shows Christians how to “transcend” through daily, moment-by-moment, practical methodology that transforms individuals into the image of Christ. It is within this purpose-driven framework, this “Quest for More”, that Paul Tripp compels believers to see beyond the worldly deception of personal achievement, success, materialism, in order to break free from this ungodly fulfillment that is too easily satisfied with a mediocre walk with Christ. Instead the author invites committed sojourners to a life characterized by an unyielding passion that pursues God simply for the pleasure of his glorious company and in the process, affect eternal change in a hurting, hopeless world.—
Prolific author and international conference speaker, Paul David Tripp, is president of Paul Tripp Ministries whose mission is to educate and equip today s Christian by combining in depth study of God s Word with practical life application. Tripp, also a pastor with over 15 years of pastoral ministry, is an adjunct professor at Westminster Theological Seminary and adjunct faculty member at the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation in Glenside, Pennsylvania. He is the author of such best-selling titles as, Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands; War of Words; Age of Opportunity; Lost in the Middle, How People Change and Relationships: A Mess Worth Making. Tripp has been married for 35 years and has four grown children.

And He Dwelt among Us: Teachings from the Gospel of John by AW Tozer is free for anyone with Logos for the next couple of days.
Blurb:
In this day of soundbytes and celebrity gossip, there are far too few opportunities to pull away from the daily grind and really contemplate the deep mysteries of God. But here’s such a thought: “The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.”
If John’s sparsely worded (but densely packed) statement describing the incarnation of God doesn’t press against your capacity to feel wonder and awe, then consider this: How could deity—with no beginning and no end—cross the gulf separating what is God from what is not God? How could the infinite ever become the finite? How could that which has no limit deliberately impose upon himself limitations? Great is the mystery of the Incarnation.
And He Dwelt among Us presents A. W. Tozer’s voice in a unique way—as a great teacher who appreciates the mystical nature of John’s Gospel while keeping his feet on solid doctrinal ground. His Spirit-led explanations will help your thoughts rise to the rarefied atmosphere of adoration of the One who became flesh so that we could know him, become his, and worship him forever.
The Logos Bible Software edition of And He Dwelt among Us: Teachings from the Gospel of John is designed to encourage and stimulate your study and understanding of the Christian life. Scripture passages link directly to your English translations and to the original language texts, and important concepts link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of other resources in your digital library. In addition, you can perform powerful searches by topic and find what other authors, scholars, and theologians have to say about the Holy Spirit, the Incarnation, and faith.

Relationships: A Mess Worth Making by Timothy Lane is now free on Amazon:
While skillfully identifying the deeper issues that keep relationships less than they are designed to be, Tim Lane and Paul Tripp show readers how to experience the other side of relationships as well. They convincingly testify of the power of God’s presence to bring believers to the place where:
- Conflicts actually get resolved
- Tough conversations turn out positive
- Forgiveness is granted and real love is expressed and shared
- Casual relationships mature into deep friendships
- Weaknesses are overlooked and strengths are applauded
- People are honest without being mean
A book about relationships, written within the context of their own friendship, Tim and Paul’s new offering is straightforward about the relational disappointments that we all suffer. But they are also optimistic about the power of grace to redeem and restore our relationships. Rather than presenting new or sophisticated techniques to make relationships flourish, the authors instead focus on the basic character qualities that can only be formed in the heart by the gospel.
“We are called to be people of great character so that when we do come in contact with the world our character shapes and influences those around us. Even though relationships are messy, they are also what God uses to rescue us from ourselves,” say Tim and Paul.

Jesus in the Present Tense: The I AM Statements of Christ by Warren Wiersbe
In Jesus in the Present Tense, Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe explores the “I AM” statements of God—from His burning bush conversation with Moses, to His powerful reassurances to the Israelites, to Jesus’s startling claim to be the Light of the World.
Many Christians find themselves mired in past regrets or future fears, but the name of God itself reminds readers that God wants them to live in the present. The more readers understand and apply God’s I AM statements from the Old and New Testaments, the more they will realize God’s peace and joy. Then they will be free to live, serve, and know God more richly in the present tense—which is just where He wants them to be.

Another freebie is Running Scared: Fear, Worry, and the God of Rest by Ed Welch:
Edward T. Welch reveals God’s plan for encouraging those in the grips of fear. One of the haunting dilemmas of the human condition is that fear is “an inescapable feature of earthly life.” Every person who has lived on this earth has encountered fear. Tragically, for this reason our race for the good life finds us all too often “running scared.”
In his new release, Running Scared, Edward T. Welch investigates the roots of fear in the human soul and the ramifications of living in the grips of anxiety, worry, and dread. Welch encourages readers to discover for themselves that the Bible is full of beautiful words of comfort for fearful people (and that every single person is afraid of something). Within the framework of thirty topical meditations, Welch offers sound biblical theology and moment-by-moment, thoughtful encouragement for life-saving rescue in the midst of the heart and mind battlefield of rampant panic-stricken responses.
This comprehensive primer on the topic of fear, worry, and the rest of God will have readers retreating to scripture for invariable constancy, stalwart care, and robust comfort, instead of as Welch terms it, “hitting the default switch” by responding with characteristic human independence, control, and self-protectiveness. Running Scared affirms that, through Scripture, God speaks directly to our fears:
- On money and possessions
- On people and their judgments
- On death, pain, and punishment
Welch’s lively text provides convincing evidences that humanity’s struggle against active and dormant fears are countless. The good news is that God provides both the remedy and the cure for this malady in the person of Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, and through powerful, life-altering promises in Scripture. Far more than merely another psychology “self-help” guide, Running Scared serves as a biblical roadmap to a life of serenity and security.
