Pastor Terry Jones arrested ahead of planned Quran burning

That’s a LOT of money to burn for a demonstration.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Sidebar: This guy is an idiot!

  • Misdemeanor … small fine for the above
  • He will do some publicity stunt again
  • However stupid & offensive …. lighting up Qurans on private property is not a crime

What law did he break? Does the fire ordinance forbid it? Would it also forbid using charcoal and fire-starter?

How about those pagans who burned the books of magical arts in the Acts? Did they commit a felony or even a misdemeanor?

Is the usual argument against burning Qurans, i.e. that it will make Muslims angry, really that persuasive? Instead of condemning this rather silly act, why not condemn the beheading of Christians simply for not being Muslims, which is a far greater evil.

This government has such a perverted sense of justice that it blames the killing of four Americans in Benghazi on a video almost no one has seen instead of condemning Muslim terrorists and exacting justice for this criminal deed.

Pastor Terry is not the real problem here, IMO.

Re What law did he break?

Per the article:

  • The two arrested were pulling a trailer of some kind
  • The trailer did not have a license plate
  • Apparently the trailer was some sort of BBQ cooker
  • Inside the cooker was approx 3000 Qurans
  • And contents were soaked in kerosene
  • They were on their way to a public park with the intent to light the contents

A Florida pastor was arrested Wednesday as he drove a pickup truck towing a large barbecue-style grill filled with kerosene-soaked Qurans to a park, where the pastor had said he was planning to burn 2,998 of the Muslim holy books— one for every victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Sheriff’s deputies in Polk County, Fla., arrested Pastor Terry Jones, 61, and his associate pastor, Marvin Sapp Jr., 44, each on a felony charge of unlawful conveyance of fuel. Jones had said he was heading to a nearby park in Mulberry to burn the Qurans on Wednesday, the 12th anniversary of the attacks. Sheriff’s officials said that Jones was also charged with unlawful open-carry of a firearm, a misdemeanor, and that Sapp faces a charge of having no valid registration for the trailer.

316.80 Unlawful conveyance of fuel; obtaining fuel fraudulently.—
(1) It is unlawful for any person to maintain, or possess any conveyance or vehicle that is equipped with, fuel tanks, bladders, drums, or other containers that do not conform to 49 C.F.R. or have not been approved by the United States Department of Transportation for the purpose of hauling, transporting, or conveying motor or diesel fuel over any public highway. Any person who violates any provision of this subsection commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084, and, in addition, is subject to the revocation of driver license privileges as provided in s. 322.26.

But do you think it was hauling diesel fuel that got him arrested, or was it a pretext to silence his freedom of speech to protest Islam?
