Halloween book burning

Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton NC will have book burning on Halloween

“The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina plans to burn Bibles and books by Christian authors on Halloween. Pastor Marc Grizzard said that the King James Bible version is the only one his church follows. Grizzard said that all other versions, such as the Living Bible, are “satanic” and “perversions” of God’s word. Grizzard and 14 members of the Church will burn music and books by Billy Graham and Rick Warren and other Christian authors…” (more)

By all means, yes, please give the folks of your town yet another reason to shut their ears to anyone calling or knocking on doors from any of the other Bible-believing churches in the area. Because, you know, people are flocking to solid churches in droves nowadays. I know a lot of pastors have been trying to figure out a way to deal with church over-population, and this seems as good an idea as any. There’s such a glut of Christians these days that something has to be done to stem the tide of new converts, and a Bible church burning Bibles seems to be the best way to confuse things for converts-to-be.

OK, still had some sarcasm left over in my system from today, and I needed to get it out before going to bed. BTW, his site has been suspended by his hosting company. I’m curious who initiated the suspension…

This makes me quite sad. But I’ve driven by the ‘church’ before. The ‘Amazing Grace KJV-Only Baptist Church’ with several other lists of non-fundamental beliefs they hold. I kind of laughed them off. I just don’t get it.

I really wish that they’d some of the easier-to-read versions to ministries who are using ESL Bible studies with non native speakers of English. ;)

Thank goodness it’s in NORTH Carolina and not South Carolina like most of the other bad news out there lately. We’ve had our share of stupid for a while.

Aha, let us take up the stupid banner, is that it? I’d just as soon we didn’t have it here either. At least it’s a few hours west of my area. Great, now I feel like a NIMBY!

According to their website, which has crashed presumably due to high volume of traffic:

“Tom Brady is teaching us to have sex outside of marriage, to commit fornication, don’t marry and do the right thing, don’t take responsibility for your actions, have a good time no matter who you hurt in this world, go from sex partner to sex partner, and it’s okay because of who I am.”

Must have been twins separated at birth.

I don’t get it when churches try to initiate boycotts and ‘make statements’, when the statement that would really make a difference in society is the Gospel.

unfortunately, the early reports zipping around the Internet didn’t specify the city for Amazing Grace Baptist Church.

So, in Mount Airy, NC., Pastor Jonathan Barker of Amazing Grace Baptist Church would like folks to know, “This is not our church!”
We should pray for this guy!

I wonder if I could send them a few books by Jack and Dave Hyles and Lester Roloff and have them get rid of those for me?

Just for the shock value, I was thinking about going up there (only about two hours away from me) and calling out a “per-version” that was government subsidized and translated by state-sponsored liberal theologians with the goals of silencing religious dissenters and lending credence to already-established unorthodox practices of a papal church and government; based on a text intentionally corrupted by the Roman Catholic church; and including marginal notes promoting the current political climate over sound theology. And as proof of the liberalness of this per-version I would point out the documented fact that the fundamentalists of the day decried it as too liberal for use and published a replacement for it one year later.

Unfortunately I think the BJU parking sticker on my car would give me away before I got two words out…but I’m curious how many folks I could string along before they realized I was casting a combination of gross over-simplification and bold-faced misrepresentation of the KJV and drive me out with pitchforks and torches.

On second thought, I might just go up there and see if I can discreetly videotape the whole thing. Member meetup, anyone? :D PM if interested.
