Author and long-time Christian educator Howard Hendricks has died
My supervising teacher introduced me to HH when I was a student teacher back in 80’s. Had me listen to some audio. The idea was to show me how to put the passion to communicate ahead of the details of the curriculum. What I learned then, and saw reinforced later, was what it looks like when a teacher loves to teach. It covers a zillion methodological “sins,” and more than a few content holes.
We never met, but HH blessed me (i.e., God blessed me through him.)

Even though I never studied at Dallas - I was and continue to be grateful for some of the former faculty. The Prof impacted my thinking early in my ministry prep days. Dr. Hendricks made an impact for the Lord’s work and I’m grateful for his legacy.

I read, with great interest, his book on discipling other believers many years ago and was blessed by it. I’m sorry that he’s gone, but know that he is with the Lord.

Dr. Hendricks was on the board of the Navigators for a period when I was involved with them. I have a tape set of his from the early 80’s and a few books. He may be the single best teacher that I ever heard, Condolences to his family, especially his son Bill who is also a marvelous teacher and writer.
This may be a dumb question, but I thought DTS was dispensationalist only. How did that mesh with Dr. Hendricks’s pastoring/founding a Presbyterian church?
Others can speak much more authoritatively than me on the history of DTS and Dr. Hendricks, but I am not surprised to learn of Hendricks’ Presbyterian connection.
Many of the great proponents of early dispensationalism were Presbyterians, most notably perhaps James Hall Brookes.
Many of those involved in the early years of DTS were also Presbyterians — at least by background.
In recent times, one of the greatest examples of this phenomenon may be Dr. Bruce Dunn, who pastored for many years at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, which famously hosted the Moody Prophecy Conferences.

I am in the middle of the Seven Laws of Learning at the time of this post. I am thankful that his influence goes beyond his life through his books. The book is extremely helpful!
