Petition for Pepsi to Drop BJU

Forum category

Has anyone seen this or discussed this? It’s a petition created by the founder of the Do Right BJU FB group I guess.

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/pepsibjusponsor/

In the petition, they argue:

PepsiCo should drop BJU as a corporate sponsor for the following reasons:
1) BJU’s past racist policies
2) BJU’s degradation of women
3) BJU’s stance of blaming victims of abuse and rewarding their abusers
4) BJU’s history on LGBT rights
5) BJU’s views on other religious organizations — especially Catholicism
6) BJU’s treatment of students and their disregard for civil rights

And I have to ask is this a joke? “BJU’s history on LGBT rights”? You really expect a fundamentalist independent college to recognize gay and lesbian rights?

They want to demand that a conservative fundamentalist college censor their views on Catholicism?

Now I understand there are legitimate complaints regarding the sexual abuses that have occurred, and BJU did bring in G.R.A.C.E. But what’s next? A Janet Reno committee to educate BJU on the rights of homosexuals? A board of cardinals to promote sensitivity to the harlot of Rome?

Although I see bullet 4 and 5 more as propaganda to gain Pepsi’s attention hoping that there may be some homosexuals on staff or Catholics that would be offended as I can’t see how anyone with a lick of common sense would honestly expect a conservative Christian college to amend their views on such matters. The fact that the issues are included in some public petition reveals a much more ominous agenda where so-called victims rights advocates are piggy-backing off of unrelated complaints of abuse to promote their anti-Christian agendas.

I do however, have raised eyebrows about BJU’s association with Pepsi, but to see opposition to their cooperation with each other based on the reasons stated in this petition are asinine.

Discussion

From the site…”All scripture quotations are taken from the King James Bible without apology. Any deviations therefrom are not intentional. If you email me with ignorant questions about “which KJV do you use” I will likely return your comment with a picture of James White photoshopped with you on a street corner holding a sign that says “Will Mock God For Food”.”

You know you gave something really stupid (see the comments (like 37 (spam?) to 41) a wider audience

My guess is that Pepsi “sponsorship” is some Pepsi banners up in an athletic center and Pepsi sold instead of Coke

And to those signers who say they will boycott Pepsi products …. they probably either don’t use them or buy whatever cola in on sale anyway!

To show my support - I am literally drinking a Pepsi right now!

I don’t have any stats for this but I would guess Pepsi would miss more revenue if they stopped selling at BJU than if the “Do right” bunch stopped drinking it.

Students serve themselves at the dining common, buy it at the snack, gym and dorm vending machines.

What’s particularly amusing to me is that Bank of America is listed as one of BJU Athletics sponsors — at least according to the BJU Bruins website under “sponsors” — and the student who was said to have created/started “Do Right BJU” is currently employed by Bank of America.

Could the BJU Bruins & fans start an iPetition of their own to have Bank of America to stop sponsoring (indirectly) “Do Right BJU”?
