Did God Exalt Obama to the Presidency?

If you’re a believer who takes the Bible seriously, you have asked yourself this question many times. I have. It has baffled me.

It seems like if you are a believer who takes the Bible seriously, you might actually look at a passage that answers the question: Romans 13:1.

A good example of the thinking that results when people are big and God is small. Unfortunately, this type of thinking seems to dominate among Christians in America. Perhaps America will have to crumble before Christians will study their Bibles to learn who God is. I hope not, but fear that it may be so.

I spoke on this passage shortly before the election. It is good to remember that Paul appealed to Nero, who was one of the most infamous rulers in history. Nero eventually presided over Paul’s execution.

The author of the article appeals to the Torah, but he should look to the wider context of his entire Old Testament. I am surprised that he did not cite, nor has any respondent here yet taken note of Daniel’s statements to Nebuchadnezzar (Dan 4:17, 25, 26, 32) and the king’s ultimate response (Dan 4:34-37).

In the New Testament Paul teaches us to obey civil authority, and has been noted, that includes the authority that ordered his own execution.

I am glad that a sovereign God is in control.

But the king of Assyria will not understand that he is My tool; his mind does not work that way. …. After the Lord has used the king of Assyria to accomplish his purposes on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, He will turn against the king of Assyria … . Can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself? Isaiah 10:7-15

This is a simplistic conclusion for the sake of time, but whether the president is “good” or “bad,” he’s just God’s appointed tool, a piece being used to march the world to God’s appointed conclusion.
