The timing is odd. Surely they have not suddenly been hit by financial difficulty, so why wait until they are 1/4 of the way through the year to lay people off? Seems like that will only make it harder to find work elsewhere, since any other potential school work would already be filled for other institutions’ academic years.

My take is that the timing of Jack’s dismissal (was it July 31st) left a leadership vacuum that took several months to resolve.
