Top Conservative Evangelical Leader Supports New Obama Immigration Policy, Urges GOP To ‘Applaud The President’

“[T ]his is the low-lying fruit of immigration reform. This ought to be something we can all unite around.”

Discussion

I am a natural born American Citizen, and I am against Obama’s failure to secure the borders, deport people who are here illegally, and to protect the jobs of American citizens. It is obvious that Obama(and the media) want us to believe that he cares about illegal aliens, when in reality he cares only about the greedy corporations that hire illegal aliens, and are worried that they will lose many of their workers, if E-Verify is used by companies.

I find fewer and fewer Christians able to cross-examine their own biases as well as popular worldly consensus which often is based on faulty appeals to Scripture. Their consciences are dulled with self-aggrandizing posturing, inability to properly discriminate between the heirarchy of principles with respect to both Bible doctrine as well as gross naivety regarding law in America and are as well desperate for a seat at the world’s table. There can be solutions, pragmatic ones, but they must be accomplished principlied and lawfully which Obama finds as an inconvenience he wishes to circumvent. But no doubt someone at The Gospel Coalition will join the cheerleading on this matter.

I feel that children brought here by their parents illegally are a special immigration case that needs to be addressed separately with some kind of legal path to citizenship. So I can applaud the intent behind what the President did. However, one general trait I have noticed of liberal/progressive minded people is that only the outcome matters. If the outcome is good they don’t really care what the means were. The President is wrong in issuing an executive order on this. Congress is the proper place to change existing laws whether inconvenient or not. The means do not matter to him or most democrats. Romans 13 talks about our responsibility to follow the laws of our government. The President calls himself a Christian so he needs to do what’s proper and follow the law and go through congress.

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. ~ Eph. 5:15-17

The outcome will be bad. There are an estimated 20 million illegal aliens in this country. A majority of those are either people with children, or people that were brought here as children. If Obama has his way, most of those people would be allowed to stay. Not only that, but it would slow down the deportation process because many would appeal to Obama’s executive order, claiming that they have families here that they cannot leave behind. All of this is just one more step towards complete amnesty for all illegals.

In an country that is going through a major depression, in which 1 in 5 people are looking for full time work, do we really want to make it easier for 20 million illegals to compete for American jobs- because that is what this is really all about- those illegal aliens are all here for jobs. They are not here on vacation.

Oh, and by the way, I am a Hispanic- so don’t go accusing me of being racist, or not understanding the plight of Mexicans, etc. I am also an American. And as an American that lives in Los Angeles, I can see the damage that is done in the cities where there are large populations of illegal aliens. And as someone who has been looking for full time work for some time, I can see how often companies here in CA prefer to hire illegal aliens, rather than hiring American workers.

Robb,

I can appreciate your evident desire to help the helpless. However, what you are proposing will only lead to further illegal immigration. Parents will dash across the border to try to get their children here for the legal path to citizenship. Sadly, the poor and disadvantaged will always be with us. We have a process in place for legal immigration. Anyone coming here illegally must be deported, without exception.

Why is it that my voice always seems to be loudest when I am saying the dumbest things?

What I am talking about is adults that were brought here as children as a special case, the parents that broke the law should have to go back. If there are still children living with their parents who are illegal then I agree they should not be allowed to stay.

Can we talk about this without you accusing me of something I have never done? I live in Texas so I know the problems with illegal immigration. As far as companies hiring illegal aliens a little federal enforcement would be nice.

That process for legal immigration needs to be reworked and streamlined. Whether they are rich or poor I think there needs to be a special case for children that are now adults that were brought here illegally by their family. Illegal children will have to go back with their parents/family. The family members will need to be deported but a streamlined legal path to citizenship for that special case I think is needed.

Robb…

You are right, the Federal Government needs to enforce the existing immigration laws. Yet, Obama refuses to do so. And not only that, he is opposed to States trying to protect their borders and to deport the people who entered the country illegally.

America needs to change its stance on immigration- period. This is no longer the almighty and prosperous country that it was 60 years ago. America is in decline- both spiritually and economically. We can no longer afford to be the welfare givers of the whole world. We need to start looking after our own.

Should we allow the whole nation to suffer, because of the plight of a few people, who knew what they were doing, and the risks involved, when they trespassed into our country illegally?

via the Daily Caller’s Mickey Kaus:
The maddening details of Obama’s DREAM Decree are becoming clearer. As this CIS report notes,

1) The decree doesn’t just apply to illegal immigrants who were “brought to this country by their parents.” It also would give work permits to those who snuck across the border by themselves as teenagers. “Through no fault of their own” is a talking point for DREAM proselytizers, not an actual legal requirement.

2) The same goes for the phrase “and know only this country as home.” That’s a highly imaginative riff on the decree’s actual requirement, which is for 5 years “continuous residence.” It turns out “continuous residence” doesn’t mean what you think it means. “Immigration attorneys have been successful in getting immigration courts to whittle this down to a point where it is almost meaningless,” says CIS’s Jon Feere. As an illegal immigrant you can go back homeabroad for multiple 6-month stints during those five years–but, if precedent holds, in Janet Napolitano’s eyes you will still “know only this country as home.” …

I agree with Robb - the problem isn’t really the reform (although I think Obama is intentionally back-dooring an amnesty program that he can deliberately grow in size and scope each year to achieve his goals) - the problem is that Obama simply cannot do an end-run around Congress to get his way if he can’t get them to cooperate. That’s my concern. Of course, that’s not a new practice for Obama, either…he’s just being more obvious about it now.

We do need some kind of immigration reform, but this idea is simply bad policy.

Robb, the President calls himself a Christian. Yet he is an Antichrist. He has shown himself to be opposed to Christianity when he vows to support homosexual and their pursuit of marriage. Can any democrat really be Christian if they support homosexuality and abortion?

I agree. There is not much in his actions or speach that indicates he is saved.
