In this post, I have used the term security to refer to both eternal security and the perseverance of the believer. I acknowledge that the terms are not exact replacements, but they have their similarities. I could not ask longer questions — the poll program is limited. So please excuse my approximating both of these as “security.”

In this poll, we are asking you to make your own judgment call about who is a fundamentalist and who is an evangelical.

For example, the Assemblies of God are very doctrinally conservative on the fundamentals, but can be pretty week on separation and thus perhaps not pass the fundamentalist test, IMO. You might think otherwise.

Since the growth of the evangelical world has most been of the Pentecostal denominations, and since those groups tend to be completely Arminian, I would suggest that most evangelicals believe the true believer can lose his salvation, which since Baptists, Grace Brethren, the IFCA, etc., tend to dominate the fundamentalist scene, and since these espouse security/perseverance, I think most fundamentalists would lean toward security/perseverance.

What do you think? Which, if any, is growing in the U.S. and the world? Fill us in!

[Jim Peet] Eternal security ≠ Perseverance

There’s overlap but they are not the same. And some Fundys who believe in Eternal security do not believe in Perseverance
I know Jim, I tried to acknowledge this up front. I don’t know how I could have been more clear:
