Joel Osteen Addresses Accusations of Teaching "Watered-Down Christianity"
“I think, for years, people have been pushed down by religion… they’ve been shown a God that you can’t measure up to… and so, my goal is to make God good and let them know…. God’s smiling down on you right now. You’re his child. He’s got a great plan for your life. You can overcome mistakes, and to me, that draws people TO God … You are victors, not victims!”Night of Hope
I think it may be a false accusation to say that Osteen preaches a watered-down Christianity. Doesn’t it have to be Christian before it can be watered-down?

I watched Joel Osteen preach in some crusade-like setting on the TV. His entire sermon emphasized how the lives of unbelievers would improve if they trusted Christ. The cross, sin, God’s wrath, Hell, and even Heaven were entirely absent from the sermon.
At the end, the choir sang “I surrender all” as people flocked down the aisles.
Questions:
What were those people surrendering? Their low-paying jobs, bad days, struggles and family problems. Who wouldn’t walk the aisle? If I believed it, I would have walked the aisle too, even though I am already saved. I want some of that!
If anybody trusted Jesus that day, it was by a miraculous work of the Holy Spirit in which they misunderstood the sermon.
