Kent Brandenburg reports from the Evangelical Theological Society

[Jeff Straub] Not that what I wear in public is any of Kent’s business …
Doesn’t what we wear in public concern everyone who sees us?
Is this a serious question? Surely not … how does my normal dress (business casual in this case) concern anyone besides me and God?

If I were dressed in nothing, then maybe others should be concerned

If I dressed in dirty clothes, then Bauder would have been concerned

If my clothes had smelled bad, then those sitting next to me would have been concerned

If I dressed in clothes that looked like I slept in them, then my wife would have been concerned.

But surely not EVERYONE gets an to be concerned about what I wear!

I didn’t say everyone. I said everyone who sees you.

It seems to me, and you can take this as seriously (or not) as you wish, that what we wear in a give venue says something about how we regard 1) our God 2) the venue itself 3) the people who will be there.

This, btw, is not to criticise what you or anyone else there was wearing, just affirm the discussability of it.

Appearances are important. They are the first clue any of us have about another person’s view of themselves and the others. I agree that this also applies to publishing, and IMO blogs are a form of publishing/public speaking.
