A response to: "Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent"
Dear Steve, Steve, you were wrong. So wrong. Death isn’t natural. It wasn’t meant to be that way. Death is the worst thing that happened, not the best. Paul tells us in Romans 6:23 that death is the result of sin. Death isn’t the end. You’re not “cleared away” as you say. You’re still around—you’re a soul that God created.
In some ways, I do think Steve Jobs is right that death is a way of clearing out the old in the world to make way for the new. Death was introduced after sin both as judgement and as a way to halt the degree to which man could be sinful on earth. If every human lived 1,500 years, can you imagine how sinful we would get? We don’t die the moment we sin, and it’s God’s grace that we don’t. But it’s also God’s grace that he doesn’t let us go on and on in our sin.
So death isn’t the end for the individual, but it is the end of that individual unleashing sin into the world.

One more thing
That wasn’t a jab at Steve Jobs in particular. Yes he sinned, and was influential, but I’m very sorry he’s gone. I owe him a great deal. My career has been as an Apple technologist, and he has done a lot to image the God with his creativity. Perfectly? No. But he was definitely used to advance technology in a way that an imager of God should.
