Is it right for the federal government to auction belongings of the “Unabomber” to raise money for his victims?

“It might be better to make a niche with this stuff at someplace like the Smithsonian and let people make donations there to help the victims. That sounds better than auctioning it off. Who knows what kind of nutty people will be buying it?”

“The federal government should not be in that kind of business. There are more important things for the federal government to be involved in.”

“It’s definitely kind of weird. I don’t know what kind of people are going to buy it. But if it’s going to raise money for the families, and the families are OK with it, then I guess it would be all right.”
