Survey on the Public Preaching of the Song of Songs

I am in the dissertation writing stage at BJU of a primer to aid pastors in the public preaching of the Song and would appreciate any input the SharperIron community can provide. If the response is sufficient, I will post the results. Also, any other shared insights relating to the Song in ministry would also be greatly appreciated.

Question 1: Is it appropriate to preach the Song literally verse-by-verse publicly to the entire congregation?

Positive Responses
1. All of God’s words are pure, righteous, just, etc
2. It’s God’s word
3. Not sure…
4. All Scripture is profitable
5. It is God’s word to His people. Preach the whole counsel of God. Especially in this sex-saturated culture, God’s view of sexual relationships between husband and wife should not be an embarrassing topic.
Negative responses

Question 2: Have you ever preached from the Song?

1. Not an entire series but a few individual messages on select passages.
2. Preaching the whole counsel of g God

Question 3: Did you receive any college or seminary training on the Song?

Question 4: Should a pastor speak of a woman’s physical attributes from the Song?
Responses:
1. Because they are in the passage…of course it should be done carefully and with wisdom.
2. It’s in the Bible
3. If he’s preaching through it, he should hit what the verses talk about.
4. Must deal with the passage, though it need not be in detail
5. Because the Bible mentions it. It doesn’t have to be dwelt on for a long time or using enticing language, but preach the Word of God. What’s wrong with children in church hearing that a husband should enjoy his wife’s breasts? They hear wrong things about sex everywhere else.
