Why Not Evangelical Seminaries

Forum category
Recently, I wrote a blog addressing why “evangelical students of theology pursuing academic careers should not choose evangelical seminaries or grad schools for education past the M. Div. level.” Feel free to interact.

Let me ask what kind of schools you are referring to when you mean evangelical? I’m pretty sure you’d exclude Calvary Lansdale, Detroit, BJU, and Central as Fundamentalist institutions. Are you talking about Dallas, TMS, Westminister (Philly)? Are there others?

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

I’m referring to Fundamentalist schools as well, as they are a subset of evangelicalism. There are, however, a few good programs out there if you have pretty specific interests and vocational desires. For example, I think Wheaton is on the right track with its PhD in Biblical and Theological Studies. Fuller as well has some good programs. For Biblical studies, there are a few I like.
