Homeschoolers: K12.com curriculum?

Since we don’t yet have a homeschooler’s forum, I thought I’d put this here. We got some paperwork from K12 (the number actually appears as an exponent-sort of font in the logo). This is a public school online curriculum (yes, they have entire units on evolution—that much I figured out) that, for now anyway, is being provided free to residents in our state. Not clear yet exactly what “free” means…we are supposed to get a DVD that gives a run-down. It appears you can go about it a la carte, and not obligate yourself to the entire curriculum. Does anyone know anything about it? Quality of the courses etc?
According to HSLDA, if you choose this route, you are no longer considered homeschooling. It is public-school-at-home. You cannot control much of the content, but much teach what they wish you to teach. While it appears that you can pick-and-choose content for now, I would be skeptical that that option will last for long. Thanks, but I’ll homeschool on my own. (And very grateful that my daughter is now officially a senior and we are almost done, but still praying for those who are just beginning on the journey. I shudder to think that they are going to have to fight for the right to homeschool all over again.)

I am always on the lookout for “freebies”…but the price tag on this one may be too much. KWIM? After I get the DVD that explains it, as well as the anticipated “courtesy call”, I’ll post what I find.
On another note, anybody have any good links/resources for Beautiful Feet materials? I was comparing notes with JG’s wife a couple weeks back, and she said she really liked them.

I have used their Geography and Ancient History study guides. I am currently using their US and World History. It’s a two year plan that will wrap up my daughter’s history for high school. I get most of my materials from the library, actually! I have a friend who used Sonlight, and they use many of the same books, so I’ll give her a call first to see if she has it, then check the library. I only buy the books when they aren’t available anywhere else, and usually from Barnes&Noble, since my husband gets a discount and free shipping from them due to his job.
We have a Homeschool folder now, so I moved this thread into it. :)
