Powerpoint resource

Forum category

I often use Powerpoint when teaching Sunday School, but my slide templates are old and boring. I was wondering if you all had a decent free or inexpensive source for high quality slide templates?

Andy,

What I do is google image search the passage, book of the Bible, or topic. That usually results in several different pics, formats, etc.

I don't use these as is (due to copyright), but it gives me some design ideas for my own template. I use ppt for work, so I'm pretty familiar with the program and how to incorporate design elements into the templates.

Another option, if you have Logos, is to use their ppt designs that are part of the sermon builder module. You can import those into ppt and go to town.

Lastly, if you're proficient with using your cell phone camera, you can create some pretty amazing slides using your own photos, powerpoint photo filters, etc, as the background.

Anyway, I hope these suggestions are helpful.

I've succumbed to the subscription model, so I always have the latest version on my machine. One plus in the latest edition of powerpoint is a feature called Designer. It will give you various suggestions for slides as you work. If you import a picture of your own, it will create designs around that picture. That is useful as well.

There are lots of copyright free images you can use as well, Unsplash is a favorite source, and you can search Google images for Creative Commons Licenses. I will often find archaeological pics I can incorporate into a design for a Bible topic. Currently teaching through the Corinthian epistles, I found an image of the ruined Corinthian agora to put into my title slide.

This site has some free options (to try before you buy): Animated PowerPoint Templates and Presentation Designs from PresenterMedia.com

Microsoft has some options here: Free templates for social media, documents & designs | Microsoft Create

And also this site: SlidesCarnival: Free PowerPoint & Google Slides Templates That Stand Out

I've also used online training from Lynda.com to learn how to use PP better. Lynda is now LinkedIn training, here: LinkedIn Learning with Lynda: Online Training Courses for Creative, Technology, Business Skills

Hope that helps as well.

I pride myself on the boring-ness of my slides!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying to up my game a bit, really just wanting my slides to look sharp, rather than dated. I'm not an expert and don't want to spend a bunch of time on slides.
