Can we try this again please ?

Hello everyone, I haven’t been around SI much in the last few months. I hope all of you are well. I spent a good while rereading most all of the posts in the “When did the church start” Thread in the early hours this morning and trying to understand why its so hard for people to just open their hearts to what the Bible says, and not what we have been taught.
Notice I said WE. Some of us try more than others and some fight tooth and nail at the least mention of anything not taught by our grandparents. I am guilty on both sides. I am so sleep deprived that I have to second guess my every word I say. and I know. That I can be wrong. And many times I am. But some times, No matter how much its argued against, I can’t get the Bible to show me that I’m wrong.
So a very important thread (like the above mentioned) comes up and before long we are batting words around and are so deep and going so many different directions that even the most nimble of us seem to lose track. (Notice I said seem. I would like to think that it would go without saying but I have to try and be PC to appease any looking to be insulted. Brothers, I’m not looking to insult anyone. If you are here, I have to assume you are a brother in Christ.) And the thread dies without having really gone anywhere.
Also, in that thread, I read many things from all sides that I can’t seem to make hold water with scripture. Jerry seems to be the only person that I am somewhat in line with and he will likely be saying “Thanks a lot” when he sees this. LOL But for the most part, I feel that things are being read INTO whats been said.
From my point of view, And at great risk I would say I think Jerry’s also, (Please correct me if I’m wrong Jerry) The people, and this means the 11 also, Did not understand that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross so that his blood would be payment for our sins, Before it was shown to Paul and he preached it.
Beyond that, I don’t know that I understand Jerry’s stand on what the water that was preached in Acts was for. I believe it was used just as is said, for remission of sin. Simply because they did not know different. These people were Jews who had lived their whole lives under the LAW. They were looking to have sins covered IMO.
Be that as it may, My stand is pretty simple. Today we don’t lead someone to the Lord and once they are saved tell them to be baptized for remission of sin. That is saying the blood of Jesus isn’t good enough ! Yet Peter said it ! And even Paul spoke in Acts of works ! It don’t have a place in the Gospel as we know it today. There is a reason for it IMO ! ! ! ! ! !
Before anyone attacks me, Please think about it. Would YOU lead someone to the lord and then tell them they had to be baptized for remission ? Would you tell them that the blood of Christ was lacking ?
I’m not trying to start an argument here. This is what I believe and why. And if you would be so kind as to give serious thought to what I have said and THEN reply, Then I would be grateful. I don’t wish to be in error any more than any of you. But quotes from some preacher or stating that something is said that markedly isn’t, (meaning Bible) will not help. Bible will.
I don’t ask flippantly nor do I take this stand that way. IF you believe another way, one of us is wrong. And I can disagree and still have the utmost respect. Please don’t think otherwise. But understand that this is not a small thing to me. This is life changing. It could not be more serious.
I would like to ask both Jerry and Ed to please answer the above question.
. Would YOU lead someone to the lord and then tell them they had to be baptized for remission ? Would you tell them that the blood of Christ was lacking ?
Anyone else can chime in as you wish.( That also should go without saying, I ask Ed and Jerry because they seem to be flip sides of a coin on this issue. And while I am far closer to Jerry’s point of view, I trust Ed and I feel he tries to see a point from both sides equally. Thanks Ed. ) And it may be that Ed and Jerry or all of you have had enough of this subject. Just because I ask it don’t mean you can’t say no. I will understand.
I am looking to understand here. Thanks in advance. Sorry Ed, As always I took forever to say a little. (

Marty, would you mind pointing to the verses you mention Peter and Paul said it? Just so we know the exact verse you are talking about. Plus, it would be good so that we can actually see scripture regarding this.
Thanks
Thanks
Marty, rather than start a new thread that obviously has roots in another, why don’t you just revive that original thread? It would help tremendously to see the original context and posts in the thread you’re referring to, and a repost in the original should bring it back up to the top of active forum threads.
If this thread should be a new, separate one (which is always a possibility given the nature of SI discussions), could you please provide at least the hyperlink to the original discussion? It helps tremendously when people do so.
Thanks.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells
Thanks for the replies.
Thanks Dave, Pray for me brother. I need it.
Jay, I did not wish to change the direction of someone elses thread. You are quite right in thinking it would be easier but that first thread went so many differing directions and I wish to try and hold a straight line. ( to the extent that is possible in an open forum ). That thread was about when the church started and there were a number of different statements. I wish to look at two. Pentecost, and the books of Paul.
From my point of view, You have to READ the blood into the book of Acts.If your going to see it in Acts, you have to bring it with you because it is not written. I can’t be any clearer about that. I can’t find it.
Now when I say the blood, I don’t mean to say that they didn’t know that Jesus bled and died. They knew that quite well. What I am saying is that they didn’t have the first clue that Jesus Christ died and shed his blood to wash them from all sin.
Daniel,
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Almost all of the second chapter of Acts)
And then Paul said-
Act 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and [then] to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
I would point you too the following-
Hbr 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Hbr 10:15 [Whereof] the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
Hbr 10:16 This [is] the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Hbr 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Hbr 10:18 Now where remission of these [is, there is] no more offering for sin.
Hbr 10:19 ¶ Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Hbr 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Hbr 10:21 And [having] an high priest over the house of God;
I would hope that we all understood that “Paul’s Gospel” ( His words ) found in those books written by Paul, Don’t speak of the blood of animals being used for “Remission” of sin. Because Paul preached the blood of Jesus Christ. We are not to add anything to the finished work of the cross.
Jesus paid it all. And just as we don’t need the blood of animals, I don’t believe we need water to clean us for a year from sin. Christ did it once and for all with his blood.
So why did Peter preach baptisim in the second chapter of Acts for remission of sins ? And why did Paul say “and do works meet for repentance”
And now I ask you again. A person comes forward at an alter call and asks Jesus Christ into his heart. What he heard preached was the following-
” 1Cr 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Cr 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Someone talks to this young man and offers him -
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
So this person confesses Christ in front of the church and believes in his heart.
How many of you are going to stand up and tell this person that that isn’t enough. That he has to be baptised and do works ?
Do those things have place in what we preach today or not ?
As I have said before, I’ll say again. I know I can misunderstand.
As to links to the talk between Ed and Jerry, There are many. To many to try and link.
Thanks again to all who take time to give thought to this.
