There are lots of men who yearn to have an opportunity to minister in churches, but the door is shut by the ungodly desires, views and opinions of those around them. They never get the chance because they aren’t handsome enough, or charismatic enough, or don’t know the right people, or aren’t rich enough, or don’t say they believe exactly the same thing as the others. or didn’t attend that church for years… Meanwhile, they open the doors wide to guys who have been convicted to sexual assault! Taped videos of men and women in bathrooms! And then a man, the brother in law, covered it up! Never even took the time to look into it because they thought he was the new rising star… Or accepted platitudes like “I was following the lawyers advice…”
Lord Jesus please forgive us. The whole church makes a mockery out of 1 Timothy 3.

It’s probably along the lines of avoiding the sin of gossip and taking offenses directly to the parties involved in line with other scriptural teaching. I think it is actually a fairly common line in church covenants.

The thing is, it isn’t gossip when the leadership KNOWS the guy was investigated and prosecuted for the issue. How about you find qualified men to do the job and be honest about the ones that aren’t?
