More Details on Warren DG Appearance
Ingrid Schlueter: Jonathan Parnell was quick to tell me that Dr. R.C. Sproul and Dr. Al Mohler would also be speakers, as if to assure me that things couldn’t get too out of hand with them there. It appears that Rick Warren is going to be given the opportunity to respond to charges that he is non-doctrinal in his messages. Parnell told me that Rick Warren is “more doctrinal” than he appears. That would be news to untold numbers of Christians who have seen their churches abandon the biblical Gospel by jumping on the Purpose-Driven bandwagon.

“Purpose Driven” is “off”? Where?
Have you been straining at gnats and swallowing camels again?
I thought we’d gotten over that. I wish we would.
Sure, no one agrees w/ all Rick has said and done and he has
said repeatedly that people shouldn’t idolize or copy him.
Still, he’s just too big a “target” and we love to find fault, don’t we.
“You can be my brother without being my twin.”

I gave Purpose Driven about 20 minutes one day. My impression at the time was that the problem is not what it says so much as what is missing. But what is missing says something as well. It’s all about how to be fulfilled. And the realities of sin and the need for repentance and the righteousness of God credited to us by faith—not much of that there. So it struck me as the usual evangelical “Jesus is the solution to all your problems” angle rather than the “Turning to Christ for His righteousness is your only way to be accepted by a Holy God who’s just condemnation you are now under” that is the gospel.
So, in short, it’s gospel-weak and there is little there that would clue in an unbeliever that he or she is lost and in need of a new birth.
Now, as I said, I gave it 20 minutes… if there was more of the right medicine there than I saw it was certainly not the focus.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
Warren actually gets off on the right foot—“It’s not about you,” he says.
Then the rest of the book is all about you! :D
