We can quibble over precisely what loyalty is “owed” by Chinese Christians to the state and what the state’s concept of “socialism” is today (I’d argue it’s really more mercantilism these days, but with little room for freedom of thought by subjects), but I think it’s pretty clear that Beijing is seeing Christianity as a real threat to their rule.
And quite frankly, because the Bible is true and Marx and Mao are false, they’re right. Christians are not, to my knowledge, picking up Kalishnikovs to fight Beijing, but they’ve got weapons far more powerful.

Mao was 0.7% right and 99.3% wrong, as far as I can tell. 100 million people who died before their time due to Mao’s cruelty and incompetence would tell you this if they could. This is a big part of why Beijing is so sensitive about people with different ideas—simply by disagreeing with Mao, they’re fairly likely to be right.
