Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to remove stained glass windows commemorating SBC's conservative resurgence

“Forty years after the birth of the Southern Baptist Conservative Resurgence, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is relocating from the J.W. MacGorman Chapel more than 40 stained glass windows commemorating the era.” - BPNews

If you want to honor the principles for which the Resurgence fought, why not images from the Scriptures? I think it would be very healthy if the school said something like this as the reason for removing those windows.

I notice that one window is titled “Brumbelow Family.” I’m assuming that they may very well be relatives of SI member, David Brumbelow.

David Brumbelow, if you see this post, any comment or background information?

My thoughts about the SWBTS stained-glass windows can be found at:

By the way, every stained-glass window did include a Bible verse.

There are also bronze Bible verses, including the plan of salvation, placed outside all over the campus. Some are in Spanish. Many locals use the campus to walk and jog. It has been a great witness. Many churches and Christian institutions should do the same. My church has.

Like Bert’s idea. Better messaging on multiple levels.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

About Judge Paul Pressler.

He has been accused, not convicted.

Most of the accusations have been dropped.

Many issues should be considered including those demanding money, the character of witnesses, details of the accusations, etc. Through the years many have been falsely accused.

While we cannot know anyone’s heart and can’t be around them all the time, I’ve known Paul Pressler for about 40 years and would never have imagined such a thing.

I hope and pray the truth will come out in a way that can be clearly seen. The most frustrating situations are those that can never be proven one way or the other.

I should have added, Pressler adamantly maintains his innocence.

The U.S. Post Office does not issue commemorative stamps of living people. That is a good policy.

Frankly, you never know how living people will “finish.” Think of Bill Hybels or James MacDonald.

Secondly, stained glass is associated with Biblical imagery, and there seems to be something a bit sacrilegious in seeing men dressed in suits and women in modern skirts, almost Mormon like. I know this is cultural. I agree with Bert and Aaron on this. It is spooky.

At Moody Bible Institute, they have a stained glass image of a sower sowing a bag of seeds. That, to me, is ideal.

If you want to honor these men, what is wrong with a painted portrait or top-notch photograph? I think that would be more culturally acceptable.

How about extremely tall statues with heads of gold, shoulders of silver… oh, wait.

Seriously, paintings sounds like a lovely idea.

Giant chocolate bunnies with the faces of the men to be honored….many thanks to Ed, BTW, for saying what I’d wanted to say, but couldn’t quite find the words.
