An Israeli organization has minted a coin bearing President Donald Trump’s image to honor his decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem. The Mikdash Educational Center said Wednesday that the “Temple Coin” featured Trump alongside King Cyrus, who 2,500 years ago allowed Jews to return to Jerusalem from their exile in Babylon. A representative from the center said that they wanted to honor President Trump on the 70th anniversary of Israel’s independence.

….someone wants to so honor me—which I do not expect—I do hope that I’ll plead with them not to do so until I’m safely dead and buried. Maybe Trump did.

It’s interesting to me that all through the 2016 campaign I had family and friends who were Trump supporters (not talking about voters who grudgingly chose him over Hillary, btw) who argued for him on the basis of a Trump/Cyrus comparison. Their reasoning was something like, “God used wicked Cyrus, he can use Trump.”

I assume the 70 years on that coin refers to 1948-2018, as though the “exile” of the American embassy to Tel Aviv was somehow comparable to 70 years in Babylon and Persia as a result of divine judgment. Come to think of it, that sounds like a lot of the so-called exegesis I’ve seen coming from the Trump camp on social media.
