NewBJU continues to climb!

Thu, 06/16/16

So……while never attending BJ personally…..I have grown (significantly) in my appreciation for the way BJ continues to stretch itself consistent with it’s mission. Congrats to our friends in Greenville for the step into regional accreditation. This is frankly a wonderful accomplishment that no doubt is the result of endless hours of unseen and at times (seemingly) thankless work on the part of staff throughout the University. I know that not all Christian institutions that take the conservative stand many of us are thankful for here at SI have the resources to do what BJ has done here…..but the fact that the University has made a significant reversal on policy towards this kind of accreditation should go along way to answering the critics who have have accused BJ of never being willing to change.

Straight Ahead!

NewGood move

I would guess BJU just made it on to the list of places to consider for a lot of fundagelical young people who otherwise would never have considered it—it means a lot whether grad schools and employers will take that degree seriously, and accreditation sure helps in that.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

NewImportant

This is *much* more important than it was when I graduated 31 years ago. I had no trouble getting accepted to various grad schools with a BJU math degree, even though it was unaccredited (they didn’t even have TRACS accreditation then). Now, it has to be high on the list of students looking to pay $80-90,000 (and that’s just the BJU rates) for higher education. You can’t be spending that kind of money (especially if most of it was acquired by loans) to be a highly-educated barista.

NewWill PCC follow suit?

Fri, 06/17/16

PCC and BJU once both rejected any type/form of accreditation. Once BJU became TRACS accredited though, PCC soon followed in their footsteps:

So now that BJU is in the process of acquiring Regional accreditation, who else here suspects (as I do) that PCC will sometime in the near future announce that they, too, are seeking Regional accreditation?

As a PCC grad, I can tell you that Horton and PCC always looked to BJU to determine their next move. Even the Bible translation controversy in the 90s was partially motivated by PCC’s desire to distinguish itself from BJU.
